Meet the Therapists...
Couples & Marriage Co-Counselling Team
Louise Dorfman and David Rubinstein are a married couple who have been together for over 39 years. As close partners, as parents of a 25-year old son, as individual therapists, and as a husband-and-wife co-therapy team (see couple-to-couple counsellingTM), they have acquired a rich source of theoretical and practical knowledge to help couples develop emotionally-committed and loving relationships.
Louise Dorfman, M.A., Counselling Psychology
Louise Dorfman is a psychotherapist who has been in private
practice with David as a marriage and couples therapist for over thirteen years. Before
working with David in their current practice, Louise
gained experience as a co-therapist in a Toronto clinic, providing marriage,
family, and individual counselling. As
a group facilitator, she has participated in drug addiction counselling for
recovering alcoholics, and presented workshops on communications skills, parenting
skills, and career planning. She has also worked individually and in group
sessions with women survivors of sexual, physical and emotional abuse at Family
Transition Place in Orangeville.
Louise received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, and
an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She is a certified
Life Skills Coach, Journal Writing Instructor, and Myers Briggs Certified Practitioner
(Myers Briggs Type Indicator™).
Louise works mainly as a marriage and couples co-therapist, but maintains an Individual Counselling practice focused on women seeking relationship or trauma-related counselling. She works locally, but also provides telephone or videoconferencing sessions for long-distance clients.
David Rubinstein, M.A., Counselling Psychology
David Rubinstein is a psychotherapist whose clinical work focuses on couple relationships. Initially influenced by the works of Erich Fromm, David has studied the effect of character development on interpersonal and social relationships. He has also incorporated the concept of “love as an art” into his private practice working with couples. David has worked as a therapist and co-therapist in several Toronto area clinics and has facilitated workshops on Active Parenting. He received an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from The Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago, and an M.A. in Sociology (specializing in Mental Health) from McMaster University.
Though he primarily works as a marriage and couples co-therapist, David also maintains a one-on-one Individual and Couples Counselling practice. Find out more about David's private practice in Marriage and Couples Counselling.
Both Louise and David are Members of O.A.C.C.P.P. (Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Pyschometrists and Psychotherapists) and OAMFT (Ontario Division of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists). David is also a Member of NASAP (North American Society of Adlerian Psychology).
