Planning Your Couple Intensive Retreat…

Posted on: March 1st, 2017 by CoupleEnrichment No Comments

What Happens at a Couple Intensive?

Our Couple Intensive is equal to weekly or bi-weekly couples counseling that you might attend typically over a 3-to-6 month period, but you will benefit from the intrinsic value of being together and being focused on your relationship over a few successive days. Over 3 days, the continuity that you will have from one session to another will help you feel more connected more quickly as a couple. You will find that you understand each other more deeply, learn more practical skills, and quickly gain knowledge about what will make your relationship work. You will move forward faster and you will do so as a team.

We know that you will benefit, no matter how challenging the issues that you bring us. You will have our full attention and expertise during each session, and you will be able to call or write to us for further assistance as you begin to practice all that you have learned when you leave for home.

Our Couple Intensive Retreat includes:

  • a private Couple Counselling Intensive (for one couple only)
  • 3 half days of counselling (10.5 hours)
  • 3 half hour post-Retreat check-ins or a 1.5 hour in-person session plus support as needed

You will benefit from the time you invest in this 3-day Couple Intensive Retreat if you are struggling to communicate, and yearn to deepen your emotional connectionBy attending this Retreat, you will:

  • clarify the purpose of your relationship
  • learn how your attachment styles impact your relationship
  • gain insight into your couple dynamics and interactions
  • have the opportunity for face-to-face emotional experiences as a couple
  • practise real-time skill-building and benefit from feedback from your therapists
  • begin to integrate new ideas and skills

If your relationship has been lacking emotional or physical intimacy  — if you can’t stop triggering each other negatively — or if infidelity has kept you apart, the Retreat will give you the time to:

  • engage in heart-to-heart talk and open dialogue
  • develop active listening skills
  • practise staying connected during difficult conversations
  • gain greater insight into how you operate as a couple
  • build self-confidence and trust in each other
  • create the foundation for a more emotionally secure relationship

Scheduling Your Retreat

Retreat Locations & Accommodations Across Canada

In Caledon, Ontario, we meet at our country home office (the location will be given to you when you schedule your first appointment). If you are coming from out-of-town, you will be responsible for arranging your own accommodations for two nights. We will provide you with B&B and/or hotel recommendations and our corporate rate code for the three resort hotels nearby.

In Kingston, we usually meet at the Delta Kingston Waterfront Hotel. In Ottawa, we meet at the Westin Hotel Ottawa. If you are coming from out-of-town, you will be responsible for reserving 2 nights’ accommodation at a hotel or B&B. We will offer you recommendations, and our corporate rate, where possible. Both Kingston and Ottawa are very interesting cities, steeped in Canadian history, and they each offer many attractions and dining experiences that will make your visit together enjoyable.

In Canmore, Alberta, we usually stay at the 5-Star Solara Resort & Spa and meet on site. If you choose to arrange accommodations at this hotel, your suite will have a full gourmet kitchen, dining and living areas, wine fridge, a washer and dryer, fireplace, flat screen TV’s, private balcony/patio, a spa-inspired bathroom, over-sized windows, storage, underground heated parking, and complimentary wireless internet. There are several hotels and inns to choose from in Canmore, and we will assist you to get the best rates possible.

In Calgary, we usually stay at The Stone Gate Inn Bed and Breakfast and meet on site. If you choose to stay also at this unique Inn and Bed & Breakfast, we will assist you in making reservations. The Inn is located south of Calgary only 2 km from the city limits, with breath-taking views of the city nestled in the peacefulness of countryside. It is close to great restaurants, shopping and first-class attractions. It is only 20 minutes to the Stampede Grounds and 10 minutes to Spruce Meadows. For skiing, boarding, hiking and biking, it is 30 minutes to Canada Olympic Park or 90 minutes to Kananaskis, Canmore and Banff.  To reach Lake Louise it is a 2 hour drive through the breathtaking Rocky Mountains.

Sometimes we work out of a suite at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary. Accommodations are not included in this package, but there are several reasonably priced hotels to choose from in downtown Calgary if you are coming from out-of-town.

In Vancouver, we usually meet in the downtown core near Robson Street. We will assist you in finding accommodations at our hotel or at a nearby hotel or B&B.

The Follow-ups

We will check in with you briefly three times after the Retreat to see how you are progressing, and will support you as needed. Staying in touch with you is very important for your continued success as a couple.
