Are you
discouraged by persistent arguments over
seemingly insignificant issues? Or does it
feel like you have "fallen out of
love"?
Perhaps you want to have more sex (or less
sex) than your partner. If you have had an
affair, or if you have been hurt by your
partner's infidelity, you might be feeling
unsure if, and how, you can
reconcile your feelings, and be able to
reconnect.
Take heart. At some point in
relationships, even the most committed
couples are faced with unexpected
challenges and roadblocks. If you feel
"stuck" as a couple, you are not alone.
Many couples arrive at this place without
even knowing how they got there.
It might surprise you that your individual
differences and seemingly irresolvable
conflicts are not necessarily a sign of
incompatibility. They simply provide you
with some unique challenges that will
encourage you to grow.
Seeking professional couples counselling
or marriage counselling, in a
nonjudgmental environment, will give you
the resources and experience to help your
relationship move forward.
As husband-and-wife couples co-therapists,
Louise Dorfman and David Rubinstein of
Couple Enrichment Inc. provide a variety
of counseling services, including one
couple only Couples Retreats for married
and non-married couples of all sexual
orientations.
You have made an initial step by coming to
this site. Take some time to read it
carefully, then email
us, or pick up the phone and call
1-877-897-2333.
Louise and David answer all their calls
personally. If they are unable to pick up
the phone when you call, you can leave a
confidential voice mail, and expect a
reply within 24 hours.

Why
Counselling?
Many
people think of counseling as a last
resort. Typically, couples seek help when
they feel they can no longer deal with
troubling issues, such as:
o
poor communication
o persistent conflicts and power
struggles
o differences in sexual desire
o lack of sexual intimacy
o infidelity and feelings of betrayal
after an affair
o emotional disconnection (leading
separate lives)
o reconciliation after separation
The
advantages of marriage counselling and
couples counseling are many. In
couple-to-couple counseling, when both
partners are present (see Couple
Enrichment
Approach
),
you have an opportunity for greater
understanding, while appreciating the
differences between you and your partner
in real time.

Couple
Retreats
We realized a few years ago that an
intensive couples counseling retreat would
be an effective way to help couples
jump-start their relationships. Our move,
at the end of 2004, to a peaceful and
serene country setting in the Hockley
Valley, Ontario, provided us with an ideal
place for private, one-couple-only
Couples
Retreats.
Marriage counseling attended jointly, in a
tranquil country setting, is devoid of the
usual time restraints and anxiety
associated with weekly one-hour sessions.
The Retreat's three-day couple-to-couple
counselling experience provides you with
hope, new insights, and new skills to help
put your relationship back on track.
Stepping away from the demands of work and
family life requires an active commitment
towards change. The Couples Retreat gives
you the time and place to rediscover
yourselves individually, and as a couple.
As marriage and couples co-therapists, we
will guide you through this process, so
that you can move forward to a more
positive place. You will be surprised at
how quickly you will regain a sense of
purpose and relationship renewal.
During a Couples Retreat, you will learn
to:
- talk
openly about your life together.
- express
what you feel without worrying about
your partner's reactions
- stay
connected, while remaining emotionally
separate, and
- begin
to experience a new level of intimacy
as a couple.
As husband-and-wife couple-to-couple
co-therapists, we will listen to what you
each have to say. But if you are expecting
either of us to take your side
only, you will soon realize that we are
taking both your sides, without
judgment, and with a good listening ear.
During the three days of the Couples
Retreat, we will outline concrete steps
that will help give your relationship a
new lease on life. We will teach you new
skills to deal with conflicts, and we will
encourage you to develop tolerance,
patience, and acceptance of your
individual differences.
Following the couples retreat, we will
meet with you periodically at two, three,
and six-month intervals. These sessions
(in-person, or by telephone) will help
deepen the connection, and ensure that
your retreat experience remains meaningful
to you both in your daily lives. For more,
visit the Couples
Retreats
page on this site.

Counselling
for Enrichment
You
do not have to be at a crossroads in your
relationship to benefit from a Couples
Retreat. Some couples come to the Retreat
to enrich and enhance their emotional and
sexual connection. "Marriage Enrichment"
retreats are particularly beneficial when
couples have been together a long time,
when one partner is undergoing a "mid-life
crisis", or when both are adjusting to
life as empty nesters. You can read about
the benefits of this counselling process,
and how it has enriched the lives of some
of our clients, on our Testimonials
page.
