Couples & Marriage Co-Counselling Team
Louise Dorfman and David Rubinstein are a married couple who have been together for over 44 years. As individual therapists, and as a husband-and-wife co-therapy team, as parents and now grandparents, they have acquired a rich source of theoretical and practical knowledge to help couples develop securely-functioning and emotionally-committed relationships.
Louise Dorfman, M.A., RP
Louise Dorfman is a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice with David as a member of this couples & marriage co-counselling team for over 18 years. Before working with David in their current practice, Louise gained experience as a co-therapist in a Toronto clinic, providing marriage, family, and individual counselling. As a group facilitator, she has participated in drug addiction counselling for recovering alcoholics. She also presented workshops on communications skills, parenting skills, and career planning. She has also worked individually and in group sessions with women survivors of sexual, physical and emotional abuse at Family Transition Place in Orangeville.
Though Louise primarily works with David as part of a Couples & Marriage Co-Counselling team, she also maintains a one-on-one Couples Counselling practice, and also maintains her own one-on-one Marriage & Couples Counselling practice, and an Individual Counselling practice focused on women seeking relationship or trauma-related counselling. She sees clients locally in Caledon, Ontario, but also provides telephone or videoconferencing sessions for long-distance clients.
Louise received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, and an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. For several years, she has been studying with Dr. Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT, a clinician, researcher, teacher, and developer of A Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy® (PACT). Louise is a Level 11 PACT practitioner. She is also a certified Life Skills Coach, Journal Writing Instructor, and Myers Briggs Certified Practitioner (Myers Briggs Type Indicator™).
David Rubinstein, M.A., RP
David Rubinstein is a Registered Psychotherapist. His clinical work focuses on couple relationships. Initially influenced by the works of Erich Fromm, David has studied the effect of character development on interpersonal and social relationships. He has also incorporated the concept of “love as an art” into his private practice working with couples. David has worked as a therapist and co-therapist in several Toronto area clinics and has facilitated workshops on Active Parenting. He received an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from The Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago, and an M.A. in Sociology (specializing in Mental Health) from McMaster University.
Though he primarily works with Louise as part of a Couples & Marriage Co-Counselling Team, David also maintains a one-on-one Individual and Couples Counselling practice. David is a Level 11 PACT Therapist, currently studying with Dr. Stan Tatkin, integrating into his practice DR. Tatkin’s Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy ® (PACT).
Both Louise and David are Members of O.A.C.C.P.P. (Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Pyschometrists and Psychotherapists). They are also members of CAMFT (Canadian American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists). David is a Member of NASAP (North American Society of Adlerian Psychology), and Louise holds a student membership with AAMET International (The Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques).
