Our Approach

The Quest For Love

Staying in love and maintaining emotional connectedness is a real challenge for many couples.

Faced with the demands of modern day living, romance and passion can easily fade. In a search for intimacy and meaningful contact, more and more couples - and singles -- are attending courses, surfing the Internet, and devouring self-help books for answers.

There are volumes of “how to” books and dozens of approaches that focus on learning techniques to deal with interpersonal issues.

Love as an Art

Relationships can improve when we learn certain basic skills. But "techniques", in themselves, are not the answer. What is needed, as a starting point, is a fundamental shift in how we think and feel about love.

The Couple Enrichment Approach™ views love as an art, a dynamic activity, rather than an idyllic, passive state that lasts forever. As with any art form, love can be mastered with ongoing learning and dedicated practice over a lifetime.

Staying in Love

We work with both married and non-married couples and singles to resolve relationship roadblocks. We also help those who want to renew, rediscover or enrich the quality of their relationships.

We encourage all our clients to look within, to explore their own individual feelings, attitudes and values about love, rather than focus on the behaviour of their partners. We explore the meaning of love, and discuss the purpose of relationships, as part of a consciousness-raising process.

Staying in love requires a clear vision of purpose, a commitment to individual growth and shared values, and practical skills to carry out that vision.

We invite you to share this lifelong journey to bring more hope, peace and contentment to all areas of your life.

What is Unique about our Approach?

The original purpose of psychology was to understand the human soul in the interest of making people better human beings. The motivation was moral, even religious or spiritual. The early psychologists believed that earning one's bread was not enough to make life worth living. Life had to have meaning - and that meaning was found in developing one's potential as a human being. The emphasis was on being and becoming more, rather on having and having more. This definition of psychology is the starting point of our work.

How we view love and relationships sets us apart from traditional couples counselling programs. In keeping with psychology's original intent, we define the purpose of relationships as an opportunity for each partner to develop him or herself as a loving individual.

Ours is a value-based approach, with the goal of becoming more fully human in everyday life. The focus is on closing the gap between professed values and everyday behaviours and actions.

Our Method

Working as a husband-and-wife co-counselling team, we draw upon our own experiences as a couple, demonstrating equality and mutual respect.

Traditional marriage or couple counselling usually focuses on symptoms or problems, and is solution-oriented. Our approach is designed to encourage the development of skills, attitudes and emotional openness that are essential in the expression of love within the context of an intimate relationship.

We focus on what is healthy in each individual, rather than on what may be "wrong" or "missing". We look at what shapes the dynamics of a relationship, and how these dynamics change as each individual develops his or her ability to love.

Could you benefit from this approach? Yes, whether you are in a difficult relationship or seeking more connectedness. You can learn to speak from your heart. You can learn to stop blaming and reacting to your partner. Your can develop the ability to "hear" when you listen. And you can connect more deeply, recapturing the intimacy you once shared. Give us a call to find out more.

We offer a complimentary half hour consultation so that you can assess whether our approach will work for you.
